DESEREE CAIN-ARZU

Deseree Cain-Arzu is a Communications Specialist with the Blue Bond and Finance Permanence Unit (BBFP) in the Office of the Prime Minister of Belize, where she supports communications for the Resilient Bold Belize (RBB) GEF-8 Project and Belize’s broader Blue Bond and finance permanence efforts. In this role, she leads strategic communications initiatives aimed at increasing awareness, strengthening stakeholder engagement, highlighting conservation and sustainable development outcomes, and communicating the connection between healthy marine and coastal ecosystems, Belize’s economy, and the wellbeing of its people.

Prior to joining the BBFP, Deseree served as Communications Coordinator with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) from 2016 to 2026, where she led efforts to elevate the organization’s public profile locally, regionally, and internationally. She managed media outreach, authored articles and communications products, and supported high-profile conservation initiatives, including the award-winning Punta Fuego radio drama, the Fish Right Eat Right campaign with other partners, and Boil-Up radio drama which focused on socializing the effectiveness of Nature-based Solutions in addressing climate change.

With nearly two decades of experience in Belize’s media and communications industry, Deseree brings extensive expertise in strategic communications, media relations, public relations, advocacy, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement. Prior to working in conservation communication, she worked in public relations at the Public Utilities Commission, further strengthening her experience in public-sector communications and public engagement.

Deseree holds a B.A. in English from the University of Belize and an M.S. in Communications and Media Technologies from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Passionate about conservation and sustainable development, she is committed to using communications and community engagement to connect people with Belize’s natural resources and champion the understanding that protecting the country’s environment is a shared national responsibility.
