Black in Marine Science (BIMS) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that celebrates and amplifies the voices of Black marine scientists while inspiring future leaders in ocean science and conservation. Founded by Dr. Tiara Moore, BIMS began as a social media movement to address the underrepresentation of Black professionals in the field.

Today, BIMS connects scientists, students, and allies through mentorship, research programs, and immersive experiences such as SCUBA certification and professional development retreats. With initiatives like BIMS Week and partnerships with organizations like OceanX, BIMS promotes environmental justice, ocean health, and greater diversity in marine science.
